As I attempt to poke my muse into working for me again, I realize that there is something cool I can share this month that isn't just "Got Another Sprite Done! 🙃" I have set up a Trello board.
Self <--- Thinks Is Funny
But I digress. It wasn't two months filled with no work. In fact, I have some pretty exciting news! First of all, you might notice I replaced the old "logo", if you could have called it that (hint: it was just plain text in a plain Weebly font >.>). I've chosen a typeface, and made a logo for Echo. I've also, in much more thrilling news, finished all of the backgrounds needed! Unfortunately, I'm not so sure that I've actually gotten better at it! Haha ha...ha? Oh well.
This is from the second chapter, "Red Election": For now, anyway... Like I did with the writing, I may feel the need to add more as I keep working on this project, but anyway.
Sharing too many of the images will give away what happens, and I'm not sure I'm quite ready for that. In the future, I'll probably have a demo for the first couple of chapters, so spoiling their part in the story is kind of... "eh". I just don't want to do it too soon. As stated before, I've begun teaching myself speed painting techniques so I can push out my own, fully hand-painted backgrounds for "Echo"!
Echo's art is now in progress, for real! Starting with the kind of art I'm worst at - backgrounds / landscapes!
I've been watching a couple videos and following some advice, and I think I'm ready to start developing my own speed painting technique. I will not go back and repaint any backgrounds that I complete in the process, so as I develop, so will the game's art! Take a look: Hallelujah! The Writing's All Done!!
My weekend has been a blast! Echo is coming along smoothly, all thanks to one final push to write in some character development, and finish the endings!
Here's what my workstation has looked like since the drafts were completed (I had a Word copy of each chapter's draft to the left while I wrote them out in-program): As my social media followers already know, the wolves' concept art is all colored up! Take a look:
Hello, hello!
I've been working hard lately, and now I'm already on Chapter 6. That means I'm halfway done! I've decided to try for one chapter per weekend, if I can. I've also finished all character concepts and am moving to fix their anatomy in Sketch #2 and stylize them in yet another refinement. We're not down and out yet!
Sorry for the sporadic posts. I've got a very busy life! Workin' 40 hours, job-hunting, and owning a fine art business is rough. For the sake of keeping in touch with everyone interested in this visual novel, I just wanted to update you all that the third chapter is completely written as of today. Only eight more to go! So here's the deal. From now until I get completely sick of drawing wolves, my art projects will be related to this game. I'll be making splashes, character concepts / illustrations, conceptualizing the in-game graphics, and all that fun stuff when I don't feel like writing. One way or another, this project will be finished! And now that my fine-art-drawing stint is over, all of my focus is on Echo again! If you would like to see said drawing stint, you can find me on Instagram by searching "ewalkerart", or you can pop over to my Facebook Page - https://www.facebook.com/ewalkerart/ Here's to the completion of my first game! And thanks for reading! ~Erin |
